Essential Oil: Middle Notes
There’s something about middle notes that feels like the heart of everything. If top notes are the first impression, mid notes are where a scent truly opens up and reveals its character. In my Aroma Alchemy practice, this layer feels like the emotional core, holding the energy, intention, and story of a blend.
I honestly feel like middle notes carry the strongest feminine energy of all three layers. There’s a softness to them, but also a quiet power. They don’t demand attention and they don’t feel heavy. Instead, they draw you in. This is where sensuality, intuition, and emotional depth live.
Middle notes, often called heart notes, emerge as the top notes fade. They last longer and create balance, bridging the lightness of top notes with the depth of base notes. When I’m creating a blend or stepping into a ritual, this is what makes everything feel aligned.
These oils are typically floral, herbal, or softly spiced. Some of my favorites include rose, jasmine, geranium, ylang ylang, chamomile, and clary sage.
Ylang Ylang
Rose feels both delicate and powerful, opening the heart and inviting love and compassion. Jasmine is rich and sensual, helping me feel confident and expressive. Geranium is one of my absolute favorites, along with clary sage. It has a fresh, rosy quality that feels balancing and supportive, while clary sage brings an earthy warmth that supports emotional clarity and inner rhythm.
Ylang ylang is soft and calming, helping release tension, while chamomile offers gentle comfort and nervous system support.
What I love most about middle notes is how they linger. They don’t rush. They stay, evolve, and hold the experience together.
When I work with them, I’m not just creating a scent. I’m creating a feeling I can stay in. This is where the magic settles in.
